“When a roughly de-shaped body of stone comes before my eyes, I find it engulfed by an aura of silence. A mystic silence equipped with a powerful sense of provocation. Basically, I am not inclined to expose, in entirety, all the hidden characteristics of the medium in one go. Mostly I allow the stone to retain its secrecy to a considerable extent. I even respect the outer form in which the stone appears before me.

My imagination rushes to seek metaphors for the life’s adventure, for experiences caught at the boundary between the domain of the unconscious and frenzy of contemporary life. The theme, the compositional elements, the treatment of light and shade, the visible appearance and the mischievous play of the shadow- image, all indicate an intensive exploration of modern art motifs.”

Robin David’s work is steeped in the modernist tradition. It is indeed a truly Maslowian ingestion of the idiom. There are no pretentious gestures here. The reference to the human and the animal body is tangential, emerging from the sinking into the armature of the sphere, the cube, the cone. The undulating motion of organic thrust as it acquires form is congealed as the stone is carved. The stone acquires a curvilinear contour, as from a state of irreducible density it aspires for form, awakened by the music of the artist’s chisel.

"We tend to think of images in terms of memory. In art, memory resurfaces to manifest itself through the metaphors of signs.

I Play with signs, real image remain elusive. It may, probably, not be possible to indicate what kind of memories do contribute in creating a specific kind of creation. Only because the conscious mind, mostly, may not interfere in the creative will of the unconscious."
